As a therapist, I frequently witness the transformative power of living with purpose and clarity. But many people conflate the act of setting intentions with the practice of living intentionally. While they are interconnected, these concepts are distinct, and understanding the difference can empower you to create a more meaningful life.
What Does It Mean to Set Intentions?
Setting intentions is about creating a roadmap for what you hope to achieve, feel, or experience. It’s a moment of reflection where you identify your desires and align your focus. For instance, you might set an intention to “be more patient with my loved ones” or “dedicate time each day to self-care.”
Setting intentions is a valuable practice. It gives you clarity and helps you prioritize what matters. But intentions alone are not enough. Without action and presence, intentions can remain wishful thinking—unrealized and distant.
