About Natural Balance Counseling

Life has a way of getting complicated fast, and you deserve more than just surviving it. Natural Balance Counseling serves clients across the greater Houston area with locations in The Woodlands and Downtown Houston, and we’re honored that you’re considering trusting us with your story.  We understand that reaching out for support takes courage, and we’re committed to making that step as comfortable as possible for you.

At Natural Balance Counseling, we believe that effective therapy combines genuine human connection with practical, evidence-based approaches. Our team creates environments where clients feel safe to be authentic while working toward real, lasting change. We’re not interested in keeping you in therapy longer than necessary. Instead, we focus on equipping you with tools and insights that serve you long after your sessions end.

Whether you’re rediscovering who you are after major life changes, working through the complexities of relationships, partnerships, and family dynamics, or learning how to balance the demands of career and family without losing yourself in the process, we meet you exactly where you are. Our solution-focused, action-oriented approach is grounded in evidence-based practices, but it’s delivered with warmth, authenticity, and zero judgment.

Dr. Alyssa Webb-McCune founded Natural Balance Counseling with a vision of creating a space where both clients and clinicians can thrive. Having been part of the Houston community for over a decade, she understands the unique challenges facing individuals and families in our area. Her passion is providing a safe, supportive environment where you can be completely authentic while working toward meaningful, lasting change. No matter how stuck or overwhelmed you feel right now, there’s always a path forward and you don’t have to find it alone.

Meet The Team:

Dr. Alyssa Webb-McCune, LPC

Founder and Licensed Professional Counselor

Welcome! Thank you for reaching out for support and I am honored that you are choosing us. I am Dr. Alyssa Webb-McCune, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Natural Balance Counseling.

I know it’s not a matter of IF life will get unbalanced and messy; it’s more a matter of WHEN that will happen. I get it! I know you have been doing your best to handle things on your own, but you deserve the support to succeed and thrive in life, not just having to coast the best you can. Many of my personal clients come in with high-profile and high-stress careers, truly wanting to have it all, and I help them make sure it doesn’t all fall apart in work, marriage, and life.

My role as a counselor is to walk alongside you and help sort through things when the mess seems too much for one person, parent, couple, or family to handle. I believe that when you leave my counseling office, you should be able to leave with insight and skills that are practical and applicable to your daily life. I know you have a home you go back to, and I want to ensure the changes and goals we work on are attainable and make a significant impact in your life.

I obtained my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University, and then followed that up with my Doctorate in Professional Counseling from Kairos University with a focus in Sex and Sexuality. Consistent learning is one of the ways I can provide you with the best and highest quality services and stay up to date on current research in the mental health field.

I am also passionate about creating a workplace atmosphere for my clinicians where they can thrive as counselors without the additional stress that can come with other environments. When I take care of my counselors, they care for their clients, and everyone thrives!

Angelic Schmidt, M.A., LPC

Clinical Director and Licensed Professional Counselor

Taking the step to reach out for counseling shows incredible strength, and I’m honored you’re considering working with me. Life has a way of throwing curveballs when we least expect them, and sometimes we need a skilled partner to help us navigate the complexity.

The foundation of everything we do together starts with our relationship. I believe healing happens in connection, and I’m not interested in being a blank slate sitting across from you. I bring my authentic self into our sessions, creating a space where you can be completely real: cry, laugh, get frustrated, or celebrate wins without any judgment. You’ll be truly seen and heard for who you are, not who you think you should be.

From this place of genuine connection, we’ll work together to identify what’s keeping you stuck and develop practical strategies that actually fit your life. My approach blends evidence-based techniques with real-world application because insight without action rarely creates lasting change. Whether you’re dealing with a marriage that feels more like roommates, figuring out how to be present for your kids while managing your own stress, navigating a career that’s draining your soul, or just feeling like you’re constantly running on empty, we’ll tackle it together with both compassion and practical tools.

I work with individuals and couples from all backgrounds and walks of life, understanding that your unique experiences, values, and family dynamics all shape who you are. Every person brings their own story, and I take time to truly understand yours so we can work together effectively.

I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Stephen F. Austin State University and am committed to ongoing learning to ensure I’m providing you with current and effective approaches. My goal is to help you not just survive your circumstances, but create meaningful change that lasts. We’ll work together to build the life and relationships you actually want, grounded in who you authentically are.

Paulina Moreno

Administrative Director

As the Administrative Director at Natural Balance Counseling, I bring over five years of experience as a medical and administrative assistant, having worked closely with psychiatrists and various other medical professionals. This background has given me a strong understanding of both clinical and operational aspects of a practice.

In my role, I handle the behind-the-scenes details that keep our practice running smoothly, including managing schedules, overseeing client communication, and improving our internal processes. My goal is to create an efficient and supportive environment where clients feel valued and our team can thrive.

I focus on staying up-to-date with industry best practices and constantly look for ways to enhance our services. I’m committed to supporting our clinical team’s solution-focused, action-oriented, and evidence-based approach by ensuring our operations contribute to delivering exceptional care.

My aim is to support our clinical team and ensure our streamlined operations enable our clinicians to focus on what they do best—helping clients create meaningful change in their individual lives and relationships. I’m excited to keep supporting the growth and success of Natural Balance Counseling.

Mallory Thueson

Executive Assistant

As Dr. Webb-McCune’s Executive Assistant at Natural Balance Counseling and our sister company Mental Balance, I provide dedicated support to ensure our founder can focus on what she does best—leading both practices and delivering exceptional care to high-performing clients.

My role involves managing Dr. Webb-McCune’s executive calendar across both organizations, coordinating her professional commitments, and handling the administrative details that support her vision for Natural Balance Counseling and Mental Balance. I work behind the scenes to streamline operations, manage communications, and ensure that both clinical and business priorities are executed seamlessly across our dual practice structure.

Understanding that our founder works with high-achieving individuals who value efficiency and excellence, I bring that same standard to everything I do. Whether it’s coordinating speaking engagements, managing partnership opportunities, or ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across both practices, I’m committed to supporting Dr. Webb-McCune’s mission of helping clients create meaningful change in their individual lives and relationships.

I take pride in being a trusted partner who anticipates needs, solves problems proactively, and maintains the high level of professionalism that reflects both practices’ commitment to solution-focused, action-oriented, and evidence-based care. My goal is to provide Dr. Webb-McCune with the executive support she needs to continue growing both Natural Balance Counseling and Mental Balance while maintaining the exceptional standards our clients expect.

Licensed Professional Counselor and Trauma Specialist

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom” – Viktor E. Frankl

Do you feel disconnected and trapped by the experiences of your past? Does life’s ups and downs have you frozen in autopilot, stuck in a cycle where you can’t find relief? Do you keep pieces of yourself hidden from those around you, carrying guilt and shame that are not your burden to bear? Oftentimes, the space between acknowledging we are struggling and finding the courage to reach out can feel overwhelming. Finding the courage to be brave and seek therapy is something to celebrate.

Life is full of challenges, changes, and unexpected events that can significantly impact our mental health. If we haven’t been equipped with practical coping skills, healthy childhood attachments, foundational social supports, or the ability to identify our emotions and feelings, we tend to isolate or self-medicate. When the hits keep coming, finding a therapist to help you navigate these experiences can motivate a profound shift in how you live and exist within your world. I want to help you get to a more peaceful and self-compassionate place. Meeting clients where they are, as they are, is of the utmost importance within my framework of practice.

I have a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of St. Thomas. I work with adults and couples within a broad spectrum of ethnicities, spiritual beliefs, gender identities, and sexual orientations. I am a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP) and EMDR trained. I work with people struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, family-of-origin trauma, and substance use/co-occurring disorders.

Let’s work collaboratively to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters hope, healing, empowerment, and growth.

Reaching out and asking for support is one of the hardest yet most vital parts of growth and self-improvement in our lives. This type of aid is needed for everyone at all stages of life. Therapy can not only help in dealing with the chaos life throws at us, but also help us learn how and when to ask for that help. I firmly believe that everyone deserves a safe environment to explore oneself and improve overall mental health.

I’m also incredibly passionate about advocating for the expansion of mental health awareness through psychoeducation and increasing access to quality care. In starting the therapeutic journey together, we can not only address and heal past concerns in your life, but also find ways to prepare you to live your best life moving forward with the right kind of help for you.

I earned my Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Houston.  I have experience helping clients through grief, anxiety, depression, abuse (physical, psychological, etc.), in addition to various forms of trauma. I’ve gained experience with a range of individuals from pre-teens to elderly adults within a private practice setting as well as with leading a group of adult professionals.

While I gravitate towards Person-Centered Therapy, I have also done varied training in more specialized therapeutic methods because every person is unique. In alignment with Humanistic views, I believe that each person is an expert on themselves and I, as your therapist, am here as a guide towards growth. I hope to be able to help guide you towards achieving better standards of mental health.
